How to Mod Your Xbox

Portable Hard Drive Review Articles January 10th, 2012

Most of the people that own the Xbox 360, at one point owned an original Xbox. The few of us that didn’t trade probably decided that it is more beneficial to keep it, as some of the games were not backwards compatible. Now that the majority of the games have become backwards compatible, what oh what do we do with our Xbox? Within this article, I will teach you how to mod your Xbox with emulators

Use the system as your virtual console, only not pay for that nostalgic feeling we get every time we see Super Mario 3. If you already have a modded Xbox than good for you. I have one and I had a hard time transferring files into my Xbox as well as the emulators themselves. I am going to provide both a walk through and a download with all the emulators in them for the Xbox. I am sure roms won’t be a problem, but remember only download them if you already “own” the game.

Portable Hard Drive Review

I would like to mention that I am using Avalaunch as my custom firmware and that anything mentioned here has been done on it.

How to Mod Your Xbox

The easiest way to transfer is using a router and a program called flashfxp. Connect the Xbox to your router using an Ethernet cable. Now click the little button that looks like a thunder bolt.

Next, select quick connect, and you will be prompted to a screen where you have to enter the URL of where the Xbox is connected. Most of the time, you can find this when you go to the network section of your custom Xbox, but in case you don’t, here is something that might help on how to mod your Xbox with emulators successfully.

The address is usually 192.168.2.1?. The ? = the port number your Xbox is connected to on your router. Example, if the Xbox is connected to port 2, than the address will be 192.168.2.12, and if it is connected to port 4, the address will be 192.168.2.14. DO NOT change the port number on the program, leave it at 21 as default. For the user name type in “Xbox” and for the password type in “Xbox” Next, click connect.

They will show up on different folders. Browse through them and find the one folder than contains the folder labeled “games”. This is where your going to put your emulators. (I am aware that there are different custom firmwares for the Xbox, this is the case on the one I am using though)

Next, simply put the emulators in that folder and restart your Xbox. Most of the emulators will allow you to browse through your folders, so just create a folder called roms for your individual emulators and put your roms there. Every time you install a new rom, you have to restart your Xbox I find. That’s it. Hope you enjoyed this article on how to mod your Xbox. Don’t worry about the emulators, I’ve included a link below with all the necessary downloads.

Why Buy an External Hard Drive?

Portable Hard Drive Review Articles January 5th, 2012

If you’re not one of the most computer savvy individuals, but you’ve been advised to get an external hard drive, fear not! A hard disk drive may sound as though it is serious business, however, it s a relatively simply device which is both useful and inexpensive!

In short, there are two kinds of hard drives which can be used to store all of your computers information. An internal hard drive rests inside your computer and is not portable. Whenever you save files to your computer, they are saved directly into the internal hard drive. The external hard disk drive works the exact same way as the internal one; however, it rests outside the computer. An external hard drive usually connects to your computer through a USB cord.

Portable Hard Drive Review

When plugged on, most computers will automatically recognize the new device and will create a folder for which to add and retrieve files. There are many pros and cons to using an external hard drive. For the most part, you really can’t go wrong using an external hard drive in conjunction with your internal drive.

Some reasons why external hard disk drives are beneficial to utilize include:

Why Buy an External Hard Drive?

1. Portability: You can take your files with you without dragging around your pesky laptop. All you need is another computer which you can plug your drive into and you will be good to go!

2. Back-ups: USB hard disk drives can be used to back-up information so that you won’t have to worry about your computer crashing. It’s always best to have your information in two places, especially when the information is not easily replaced.

3. Space: Many people chose to use external hard disk drives because they do not have enough space on their internal drive. By loading up your internal drive to its full capacity, you run the risk of significantly slowing down the speed of your computer. Additionally, if your internal drive is jammed full with files, you are more likely to experience a computer crash.

Some reasons why external hard drives may not be so great:

1. They are easier to lose. This can be a big problem when you have personal or private information on these drives. Essentially, and external drive it just a bigger version of a thumb drive. You will want to be careful where you keep it stored, because losing it could mean big problems if you have bank passwords on there!

2. Their size makes them likely to get damaged. These small, square devices are easy to drop, and therefore relatively easy to break. To avoid this problem, simply pay attention to where your device is at all times. You don’t want to risk moving your laptop around while your drive is still plugged in. You could end up snagging your USB slots or bumping your external drive around.

In short, getting an external hard drive is usually going to be a benefit to you. As long as you can keep tabs on its whereabouts, you can utilize it in many different ways.

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

Portable Hard Drive Review Articles December 24th, 2011

Does you starter make a *click* sound when you try to start your vehicle?

Each time you turn the ignition switch to start, does the starter just *click* one time?

Portable Hard Drive Review

That is probably the starter solenoid.

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

If it goes, *click-click-click-click*, and so on, it may just be a low battery.

A low battery that makes the starter *click* a few times doesn’t have enough *juice* in it to turn the starter over to turn the flywheel over to turn the crankshaft over to make the engine start…phew!

A simple way to tell if the battery is at fault is to turn the headlights on and turn the ignition switch to start.

If the lights go out, then the battery is probably at fault.

Course, you’ll have to run real fast after you hit the start position in order to see if the lights go out…or have someone out there watching for you.:-)

You can purchase a small inexpensive battery charger at most malls, or parts store.

The best way to use a *trickle* chargers is to charge the batter all night, or all day, whichever pleases you.

You can try charging the battery. If it runs down again, then you need to do something.

Remove the battery terminals from the battery post, if you have the *post* type, and clean the post and the inside of the cable clamp.

If you have the side mount just loosen the 8mm bolt and clean the terminal where it comes into contact with the battery. Clean the part on the battery, too. :-)

Sometimes the battery will build up a lot of corrosion on the outside of the cable clamp.

When this happens, usually, the inside part of the clamp and post will create a hard metallic-like surface.

This stops the flow of electricity from the alternator to the battery.

When you use the battery’s reserve, it’s gone, no more being put in.

If the vehicle does crank, it will run off the alternator, which ain’t good. :-(

If cleaning the post and recharging the battery doesn’t solve the problem, you may need a new one.

Don’t run to the nearest *convenience store* and buy a battery.

Take your battery to a place that sells batteries and have it checked.

If it is gone to where old dead batteries go, then you will have to purchase a new one.

You may have other problems…like the alternator; the tension on the alternator belt… several things could make the battery be low…did you leave the parking lights on when you parked, to go shopping? :-)

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking
